Given that Apple's other operating systems are named iOS, watchOS, and tvOS, the name OS X has become a bit of an outlier. It's hard to believe that iOS is now on its tenth major version, which put Apple in an interesting position since their desktop operating system has been called OS X for many years now. I've just updated to Mac OS X El Capitan today and it actually is a little faster than Yosemite was but the problem still exists: it's just really slow when opening applications and switching between them.Īlthough my main computer is a custom-built PC, I'd still like to have this Mac perform better when I am using it, so I've been thinking about a RAM upgrade from 4 GB to 8 GB but I have a couple of questions:ġ) I went on Apple's website and found this article and I noticed that the maximum I can upgrade to is 8 GB? I have seen recent Macs upgraded to 24 GB so I was hoping I could go for like 12 or something, so is it true? And do I have to buy the RAM components from Apple or can I find them elsewhere? If so, exactly what should I be looking for? I'm sure each RAM has a certain model, size, etc.Ģ) Is it actually worth it? It will probably cost a lot because Mac and its upgrades aren't quite popular in Egypt, so I was wondering if it's actually worth the money and the effort or if I should just leave it be?īy the way, would this model work? I am talking about either the 8gb or the 16gb kits.As with past years, Apple's WWDC 2016 keynote showcased the upcoming updates to Apple's operating systems and developer tools. I tried all the normal troubleshooting procedures like cleaning your hard drive, monitoring the background processes, removing startup items, and such things to no avail. My MacBook has been performing considerably slowly as of late and I haven't been able to pin down the problem.
